I was last week in Slovakia as FEE mentor for Spirala, the FEE organisation in Slovakia. Spirala is an umbrella orgnization for environmental education. The have a good EcoSchools programme and they are starting Young Reporters for the Environment. The energycompany VSE, what means Energie in Eastern Slovakia, is sponsor for the EcoSchools programme. We visited an EcoSchool where children cleaned the border of a river. They took photographes before and after their activities to show the inhabitants the effect of cleaning. They hope that the border of the river will stay clean. |

The birth of the Donation shop |
|
Beginning 2008 Henny Kromhout board member of FEE-Netherlands played with the idea to create a shop for FEE participants. He asked the ANWB to help with this plan, and this way I got involved.
Together with Henny we created this FEE donation shop. Important criteria were the new site should be informative, fun and support FEE members.
We're looking at a great opportunity now to support the thousands of FEE people with their local projects. We hope this site will help with the promotion of the results of the hard work of these volunteers.
Please let us know what you think of the Donation shop and how we can improve it!

World Wide Eco-Schools in Morocco |
|
Next week is the National Operators Meeting of Eco-Schools in Morocco. This annual meeting is important to share new developments, to discuss the programme and to present experiences from different countries and their cultures. There are representatives from 35 countries together in Morocco.
One of the new developments is the Donationshop. Slovakia and the Netherlands started with this internetprogramme. South Africa and Kenya delivered already projects.
We hope to get a lot of proposals from other countries after the meeting in Morocco.

During the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE-International) and UNEP conference in Nairobi, together with others, I visited a school in one of the slums of Nairobi. It was a special experience. Thousands of shacks built from corrugated iron plates and wooden planks, dirt roads, everything for sale and everyone left to their own devices. The residents try to find work in the tourist industry, shops and as domestic help. The slum has its own economy and children attend school, in as far as that is possible. The teachers earn very low wages, a number of children are unable to pay the low school fees and the school lacks every imaginable resource.
With the FEE Donation Shop we are drawing attention to projects in order to raise money to allow these children to go to school. The amounts involved are relatively small but for the locals they are considerable. |

Succes for Donationshop in Hawkstone |
Thanks to finacial contributions from individuals a dangerous wall at the point of collapse was replaced. The material was purchased from the money that was donated and the contractor in South Africa did the work for free. That's what we call a nice cooperation. The teachers and students can now go back without danger of collapse of the wall.

Omroep LLink en FEE-Nederland |
|
FEE-Nederland ondersteunt LLink.
