A project proposal for an eco-school program
A project proposal for an eco-school program
A University students oriented eco-school program offering environmental education to secondary school (high school) students.
€14.00

A secondary school based eco-school program initiative called ‘‘University Students for Environmental Education or USEE’’ will be established in Nairobi by the university of Nairobi students. USEE will focus on providing environmental education to secondary school students across Nairobi city and the suburbs of Nairobi. USEE will also focus on championing for environment conservation and dissemination of environmental information and awareness across the country. It is expected that the provision of information to secondary school students will provide them with opportunities to develop the awareness and acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and competencies to take full charge of the environment at their tender age.

USEE will utilize volunteers who are students at the University of Nairobi [UoN], Kenyatta University [KU] and other colleges within Nairobi. Each volunteer student will be expected to successfully participate in a 4 week training program at the beginning of their work with USEE. This training program will provide them with basic environmental skills and information on student teaching methods. Each student volunteer will be expected to contribute at least eight hours each week and to continue with USEE for a period of not less than one year.

USEE will operate with six staff members and their assistants who will all be volunteers. Periodic evaluations will be conducted to assess the value of USEE programs on helping the student volunteers to become effective educators and enabling all members of the school community to participate in the environment conservation efforts and management of locally available environmental resources. USEE will also use a participatory approach where secondary school students will be given opportunity to come up with ideas and participate in the informative process. This is a new and better approach as compared to the old and less effective essay competition approach still being used by many organizations. This will be done through entertainment activities and initiative projects though environment clubs in schools, which USEE will encourage them to establish.
